Search Help
To search, type the word or words that describe your topic into the open search box and click on Search. Enclose phrases in quotes. For example:
interoperability
"laser dazzler"
Boolean Searching
A Boolean search finds the exact words you typed and allows you to combine terms with and, or, and not as well as parentheses (). For example, searching on (communications or interoperability) and analysis will find all documents containing either the word communications or the word interoperability that also contain the word analysis. Searching on communications not interoperability will find all documents containing the word communications that do not contain the word interoperability.
Concept Searching
A Concept search will look for the words and phrases you typed as well as related concepts. For example, a search on shield will find documents with related terms such as protect.
Pattern Searching
A Pattern search will look for the words you typed as well as words with a similar spelling. This type of searching is useful when you are not sure how to spell a word or a person's name. For example, a search on armour will also find documents containing the word armor.
Wildcard and Proximity Searching
To search on a word root with a variety of endings, use the *. For example, correction* will find the words correction, corrections, or correctional.
You can also search for words to be found within a specified number of words of one another. The pattern to follow is:
word1 word2 within N
This means that word1 must be found within N words of word2. For example:
communications analysis within 5
will find the word communications within 5 words of the word analysis.
