NIJ Body Armor Technical Workshop, May 8, 2008, Annapolis, Maryland

The purpose of this workshop is to provide information on NIJ's Ballistic-Resistant Body Armor Program, including the following: changes in performance requirements and test methods of the revised body armor standard, research that will support future revisions of the standard, and an introduction to the enhanced Compliance Testing Program and its requirements. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, and NIJ welcomes feedback on the workshop presentations or the draft standard. More information...


2008 International Conference on Countering Terrorism through Technology, Minimal Force and Less-Lethal Options, May 21-23, 2008, Orlando, Florida

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss the most recent developments in tactical concepts and emerging technologies in the application of minimal force options. The objective of the conference is to enhance the collective ability of law enforcement to resolve critical incidents and potentially violent encounters while increasing both public and officer safety and safeguarding civil liberties. This event is being co-hosted by NIJ, Penn State University and the National Tactical Officers Association. 2008 Innovative Technologies for Community Corrections Conference, June 9-11, 2008, Denver, Colorado

Each year the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center's Rocky Mountain Regional Center sponsors a conference and exhibition to convey technology information to community corrections professionals. The goal of the conference is to spotlight the innovative use of technology in community corrections and to introduce technologies on the horizon that may enhance an agency's mission performance. NIJ Technology Institute for Rural Law Enforcement, October 26-30, 2008, Coronado (San Diego), California

This technology institute, sponsored by the National Institute of Justice and hosted by the Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center, is designed for the command staff of rural and small law enforcement agencies containing less than 50 sworn officers. Law enforcement personnel will learn about and discuss technology initiatives and issues affecting the rural and small law enforcement community. Participants will receive information and assistance on existing and developing technologies, work through problems relating to technology implementation, and exchange technology lessons learned, that are of importance to the rural and small law enforcement community. The deadline for submitting an application is August 1, 2008. Technologies for Critical Incident Preparedness Conference and Exhibition 2008, October 29-31,2008, Chicago, Illinois

This 10th annual conference provides DOJ, DHS and DoD the opportunity to highlight the technology and training tools currently available and being developed for the emergency responder community and to elicit responder technology requirements. It provides a forum for responders to discuss best practices and exchange information. Expected to draw 1,500 attendees and 150 exhibits, this three-day conference will bring together key leaders and decision makers--offering responders, business and industry, academia, and Federal, State, tribal and local stakeholders a unique forum to network, exchange ideas, and collaboratively address critical incident technology and preparedness needs, protocols, and solutions.
