BRTC Mission
The Border Research and Technology Center (BRTC) was established in March 1995 as a technology resource to support an array of law enforcement, corrections and public safety agencies along the Southwest Border through a framework memorandum of understanding between the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. BRTC provides a point of contact for access to technology assistance and engineering support to enable agencies to obtain information on current and emerging technology which can contribute to enhanced capability, effectiveness, and efficiency of border enforcement and management activities.
BRTC supports the Attorney General's Border and Immigration Subcommittee and
operates as part of the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology
Center (NLECTC) system. BRTC emphasizes technology resources in accordance
with the Vision and Mission of the National Institute of Justice, Office of
Science and Technology. The BRTC is operated by Sandia National
Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico, in technical partnerships with the
Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center in San Diego, California,
and NLECTC-West in El Segundo, California.
