Technology Working Groups (TWGs)

Each NLECTC facility sponsors one or more Technology Working Groups (TWGs) that reflect the core competencies of that facility's technology focus areas. These TWGs are small groups of public safety practitioners who have responsibility for implementing technology tools (e.g. weapons, protective devices, and communication devices) and systems (e.g. records management, computer-aided dispatch, and training simulations) within their agencies, as well as members of the scientific research community and private industry.

Through the TWGs, the NLECTC system helps the National Institute of Justice identify requirements, plan research and development to meet those requirements, and assess research results. TWG members are essential for ensuring that future technologies meet practitioner-driven needs. One TWG has been created for each of the following technologies:

  • Biometrics
  • Body Armor
  • Communications Technologies
  • Community Corrections
  • Corrections
  • Cyber Crime
  • DNA Forensics
  • Explosives
  • General Forensics
  • Geospatial Technologies
  • Information-Led Policing
  • Less-Lethal Technologies
  • Modeling and Simulation
  • Personnel Protection
  • Pursuit Management
  • School Safety
  • Sensors and Surveillance
  • Weapons Detection
