About NLECTC

Originally created in 1994 as a component of the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ's) Office of Science and Technology, the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC) system serves as an "honest broker" offering support, research findings, and technological expertise to help State and local law enforcement, corrections, and other criminal justice personnel perform their duties more safely and efficiently.

To better align the NLECTC system with NIJ's Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDT&E) activities. On September 20, 2007 NIJ announced the addition of four Technology Centers of Excellence (CoE) as part of the NLECTC system.

While the existing NLECTC's will continue to serve as the initial point of entry for technology information and generalized technology assistance, the new CoE's will serve as the authoritative resource within their respective technology focus areas, providing specialized technology assistance to public safety personnel as well as working with technology developers and users to test and evaluate equipment in operational environments. Learn more about the NLECTC system by clicking on the Center designation below.

Advisory Councils

The NLECTC system is assisted in its mission to assist law enforcement and corrections by national, regional, and specialty advisory councils. Together, these councils form a bridge between the criminal justice community and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Office of Science and Technology.
